White People by Allan Gurganus
Book Number:RC 33213
252 pages on 7 sides
Read by Fred Major
A collection of nine stories and two novellas about poor people, mostly whites from North Carolina, by the author of "Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All." Three pieces, dedicated to his father, his brother, and his grandfather, are somewhat autobiographical. Others poke gentle fun, yet show his respect for the southern roots of his characters, each caught up in some unusual situation
Each of these stories were a joy to read. Some were on the strange side. For example, "It had wings". A story about a male angel who falls out of the sky into a widow's back yard. She sees him as she is doing the dishes and runs out to help him. Probably the shortest story in the collection but packed with energy. My favorite is " America Competes". I truly enjoyed this collection. I give it a 5 out of 5.
Happy Reading,

Sounds cool! I'll have to check it!
